ABOUT EACANRI

EACANRI was launched on 23^rd June 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. The launch of the Network signified a new dawn in tapping the expertise of academics and researchers in the acceleration of the East African regional integration process for socio-economic development. The need for the launch EACANRI was premised on the fact that the voice of academics and researchers in regional integration has been lacking in the EAC integration process.

This is despite the fact that they can play an instrumental role in accelerating the East African integration process by informing policy decisions through cutting edge research and training the human resources with the necessary skills to tackle the challenges of the region. The launch served as a curtain raiser to a series of activities lined up by the Network which require prudent budgeting and resource mobilization.

EACANRI Members

Objectives

To provide a forum for academicians from the EAC States in diverse of specialization in regional studies to pool resources and expertise to address national challenges.
To pool resources and expertise to address national challenges.
To foster collaboration and linkages among scholars and researchers on EAC integration in East Africa and beyond.
To enhance the capacity of training and research on regional integration in Higher Education Institutions in East Africa.
To collaborate with other similar networks regionally and internationally in capacity building, training, collaborative research and such joint programmes.
To promote research in the area of the EAC regional integration for purposes of improving the socio economic development in East Africa.
To provide policy makers with evidence based advice on matters related to EAC regional integrations through regular policy briefs.
To share regional expertise within the region.
To plan and host conferences, symposia and workshop focusing on EAC regional integration in the region for sharing ideas and for the dissemination of research findings and best practices.

Vision

- To be a prosperous, competitive, secure, academic and influential network in the achievement of the EAC goals and objectives.

Mission

To widen expertise opinion, consultation, and academic knowledge in matters of economic, political, social, and cultural affairs in order to ensure that the East African Community organs achieve full customs union, common market, monetary union, and political integration in the East African region.

OUR WORK

Major Activities of the Network

To disseminate information on regional integration through newsletters, journals, books and other documents in print and electronic forms.
To support the development and dissemination of innovative regional integration ideas and practices.
To support the development of national academic networks for regional integration.
To support IUCEA in the establishment of centres of excellence in regional integration.

To organize academic and research conferences, forums and workshops on themes related to regional integration. 
To participate and collaborate in research projects related to regional and or addressing issues of regional interests.
To produce regular policy briefs on integration challenges and opportunities.
To mobilize and utilize funds and other resources for achieving the goals and objectives of the network.

EACANRI Events

The first Meeting in Bujumbura Burundi, for the establishment of the EACANRI done from 9^th to 10^th May 2022. This meeting was convened by the Inter University Council of East Africa and Overseered by IUCEA Executive Secretary Prof Gaspard Banyakimbona and Prof Mike Mawa . This meeting is the foundation for the creation and establishment of the EACANRI.
